Data Insights Tips and Tricks with FocusVision Decipher

New to FocusVision Decipher? Here are some Tips and Tricks to help you get started.

In a previous blog post, we discussed tips and tricks for survey building and the importance of providing a quality experience for those taking your survey. Once you build your survey and are ready to launch it, you should monitor your incoming data to ensure proper quality. And now is the time to get an early look at the feedback you’ve received through your survey. This will prepare you for the work ahead to build a story and share the consumer insights from your research. Here are a few tips to get you started.

Soft Launch and Data Checks

When you are ready to field your survey, it’s always good practice to first do a soft launch. In a soft launch, a small portion of your sample is sent prior to full deployment. A soft launch allows you to use live data to check and verify your sample deployment runs as expected with no survey errors. If a mistake is found, you can address this with minimal impact to the project cost or feasibility.

FocusVision’s Decipher allows you to quickly and easily make important data checks while you are in field. The response summary page includes statistics such as terminates and incidence rate, which are updated in real-time as data comes in. These are vital numbers to follow.

The terminates value reveals how many people are exiting your survey because they are not meeting the desired criteria. You may want to interview only marketing professionals or car buyers. Everyone else should exit or terminate from your survey. However, too many terminates may reveal a problem with your survey or sample deployment. If few people are qualifying for your survey, that means you will have a low incidence rate, which will affect sample cost and your ability to recruit enough people to your survey.

The response summary, also shows dropout rates by question. Understanding when and where respondents drop out (which question or section) and abandon your survey can indicate a problem. Poor wording or a confusing question can frustrate and lead people to quit your survey.

Your survey may include quotas, that is, a desired number of completed interviews by certain subgroups. If you want a certain number of males or female responses, the response summary page allows you to verify that you are getting this or not.

Through regular monitoring and data checks such as these, you can spot potential problems early, and make changes to your survey or sample in real-time to get the most out of your online surveys. FocusVision Decipher allows for in-field changes without disruption to the existing survey, so you can keep your project on track.

Data Insights and Reporting

Perhaps the most exciting part of launching a survey is when results come in and you can view the feedback to your questions. FocusVision Decipher automatically reports real-time results in simple to read data tables.

You’ll want to take these data tables a step forward, however. For example, splitting your data will enable you to start deriving meaning and actionable insights. Splitting your data by age, gender, or geographical region will help your business focus and target specific segments of the population that have a unique set of needs or opinions.

FocusVision Decipher’s reporting tool includes the capability to create any custom crosstabs so you can segment your data by subgroups. There’s also a handy ‘quick split’ option that provides one-click access to segmenting your data by any question in your survey. If you have a gender question, the ‘quick split’ option will instantly split your data by Male and Female responses and runs a significance test between the genders.

As a final step, you’ll want to share and present the findings of your analysis and data insights to stakeholders. Of course, graphics and data visualization is a key component of communicating your message and findings, and FocusVision Decipher includes the tools you need to accomplish this as well.

You can create a chart for each one of your data tables. Just select the ‘add / edit’ chart option and decide what chart type you want (e.g. bar, pie, line). Decipher will do the rest. If you need transfer those charts into native powerpoint, that’s easy, too, with our 1-click to powerpoint option.

Ensure your data is being collected properly and there are no errors in your survey by regularly monitoring responses as people take your survey. Once you finish collecting your data, take advantage of the capabilities within FocusVision Decipher to set up data segments and powerpoint charts. When working with surveys you may collect feedback from hundreds or even thousands of people. So having the right technology at your fingertips can go a long ways towards ensuring a successful and expeditious outcome and effective decision making for your business.
